Thank you to everyone who donated to our Holy Week fundraiser! As of April 25th, we had raised $780 in our Facebook fundraiser towards funding people from low wealth communities to get to Washington DC for the Poor People’s March on Washington in June. We are still collecting funds towards our goal. If you would still like to give you can donate online through our website here (choose scholarships/assistance – PPC from the drop down menu).
Rev. Libby Howe, the WCC’s Congregational Support Coordinator for Peace & Justice Ministries recently wrote an article where she talks about the important work of the Poor People’s Campaign. She writes, “The Poor People’s Campaign is about engaging what the Wisconsin Council of Churches calls “holy imagination.” If a more just world can’t be imagined, then it can’t be realized, either. When you read through the policy priorities of the Poor People’s Campaign, you can begin to see a picture of a different kind of world: one that criminalizes poverty, not poor people. One that privileges people and life over the accumulation and hoarding of money. One that does not abide massive levels of unjust incarceration. One in which our national and state governments can and will provide for the common welfare which includes access for all to clean water and nutritious food, quality education, meaningful work that pays a living wage, adequate and affordable housing, and healthcare for all. Not only does the movement call out for these seemingly dreamy things, it has real ideas and practical plans to make it happen!” You can read the full article by Rev. Howe here.
