Community Health Program

Dedicated to courage, justice, and holy imagination in building equitable health systems through Wisconsin's churches.

From April 2021 through summer 2025, we partnered with the State of Wisconsin to overcome COVID-19 vaccination barriers. With over 700 churches, we organized 250+ clinics, administering roughly 4000 vaccinations. Led by Executive Director Kerri Parker, we provided crucial information through our weekly newsletter and crafted the acclaimed Returning to Church guidelines.

Collaborating with key organizations like the African-American Council of Churches and the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, our impact extended nationally and even internationally. Recognized by Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Public Health Association, our initiatives garnered media attention, emphasizing our commitment to community health and holistic well-being.

The Program is currently inactive, due to federal funding cuts.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wisconsin Council of Churches provided guidance for faith communities on how to gather more safely among constantly changing recommendations and contexts. With Patient Endurance: Returning to Church 5.0 was the final set of recommendations that focused on “living into a new normal”.

In a Strange Land: Stories of Courage, Faith & Resilience During the COVID Pandemic

As Executive Director Rev. Kerri Parker notes, "We are prone to forgetting the details very quickly on the other side."

This documentary by the Wisconsin Council of Churches, working with Carter Designs, is the product of many, many hours of interviews with folks across the state of Wisconsin about the impact of COVID-19, particularly on faith communities. We share these rich, heartfelt stories and encourage you to watch with an open heart as you, too, reflect on the changes in your life and communities since early 2020.
