Pray for the Immigrant Community on April 27th and Join Voces de la Frontera for Action on May 1st and May 2nd
Immigrants have been part of the fabric of the United States since its beginnings, but that has always come with tensions. Today, immigrant communities in the United States are under attack. While the system has been broken and immigrants have faced deportation for years, in 2025 the pressure has increased because of policies at all levels of government, but especially the federal level. This has resulted in families torn apart, increased discrimination, and many who are living in fear.
As people of faith, most traditions recognize “the golden rule”, to love others as we love ourselves, and many of our traditions speak of special care for immigrants. When voices of discrimination are loud, communities of faith have an obligation to loudly speak messages of love, acceptance, and welcome.
Since the mid-2000s, May 1st, a day celebrated around the world as International Workers Day and Labor Day, has also been celebrated as a “Day Without Immigrants” to draw attention to the significant contribution immigrants bring as coworkers to our country.
We are inviting congregations to pray for immigrants on the weekend before May 1st (April 25-27th) and then join Voces de la Frontera for action on May 1st in Milwaukee and May 2nd in Madison. Click here for details on the march.
If you cannot participate on April 27th, we invite you to pick another day to lift immigrant communities in prayer.
The WCC has curated resources (prayers, worship resources, activities, and more) to assist your congregation that you are welcome to adapt to fit your context. You can dedicate an entire service to focus on immigration or just a small portion.
If you would like a representative from Voces de la Frontera to join your congregation in worship on April 27th, contact Bianca Tomasini at brtj2457@gmail.com.
