Milwaukee Safe Surrender Events

The Wisconsin Council of Churches will offer a safe firearm surrender event on Saturday, October 7 from 9 a.m. until noon at Alice’s Garden, Milwaukee. Unloaded guns should be placed in the back seat of a car or the rear of a van. Skilled personnel will remove the firearms from vehicles and transfer them to a chop saw station. Trained volunteers will use power chop saws to make three cuts to the gun, according to guidelines from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The gun donor waits through this process. There is no transfer of firearm ownership. Once the gun is dismantled, it is no longer legally a gun. Gift cards will be offered as a thank you for each donation. Ammunition is not accepted. Parts from the dismantled guns will be forged into garden tools, a portion of which will be donated back to Alice’s Garden and the remainder to be sold with all profits benefitting non-violence initiatives.
