As we welcome refugees from Afghanistan to Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Council of Churches and the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee are offering a series of webinars to better understand our new neighbors.

 

Join us on Tuesday, October 26th at 2pm for our first webinar, an Introduction to Islam with Othman Atta as we learn about Islam and what it is like to be a Muslim in Wisconsin.

Othman Atta has served as both, President of the Executive Board and Executive Director of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee. He is an attorney who has been in private practice for over 20 yrs. As a spokesperson for the Muslim community, he has participated in numerous panel discussions, radio and television programs, debates a local university, and speeches to businesses and interfaith groups.

He serves on the Advisory Board for Marquette University Law School. Has taught courses on Islam and Middle-East Politics for UW-Extension.

A recipient of the Wisconsin ACLU Chapter’s “Civil Libertarian of the Year Award” and Wisconsin Law Journal’s “Leader in the Law Award”. He is a member of FBI Civil Right’s Advisory Groups.

Formerly, he was a cabinet member of the Interfaith Conference of greater Milwaukee, Adjunct Faculty Member at Cardinal Stritch University, and Board Member for the American Arab Anti- Disciminaiton Committee, and former Commissioner on Milwaukee’s Police-Community Relations Commission.
