Celebrating a New Partnership

We are excited to announce an ongoing partnership between the Clergy Emergency League (CEL) and the Wisconsin Council of Churches. WCC and the Clergy Emergency League have worked together on several webinars over the past year and are now advancing the relationship as the WCC has agreed to serve as CEL’s fiscal agent.

From CEL’s website: “The Clergy Emergency League is a grassroots network of clergy speaking with a unified voice against the abuses of power at the federal, state, and local levels. We repudiate the fusion of politics with radical, right-wing, fundamentalist Christianity. And we denounce the growing power of racist white nationalism and a militarized police state. We provide support, accountability, resources, and networking for clergy to prophetically minister in their congregations and the public square in this time of political upheaval, social unrest, and partisan division.”

Individuals wanting to support CEL financially can do so with a check or online gift to the WCC with a note specifying that their gift is for the Clergy Emergency League. Gifts will be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. The WCC has some experience with this type of support, as it also provides technical assistance to Wisconsin Interfaith Power and Light and has worked with other organizations in similar ways in the past.

You can anticipate information, connection, and additional educational opportunities related to equipping clergy and churches for prophetic ministry through this new partnership. While our core ministry focus remains here in Wisconsin, the ease of online communication makes it clear that our networks and our ministry support are much broader. We are excited about the work of our friends at CEL, who connect with leaders across the nation. As the organization celebrates its anniversary on July 1st, we pray with them for future possibilities and projects to come.
