Cultural Competency for welcoming and supporting Afghan Muslims

On Thursday, May 26, WCC will be hosting a special webinar to educate congregations on Cultural Competency for welcoming and supporting Afghan Muslims. Our presenter, Janan Najeeb, is the director of the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition and a brilliant and engaging speaker. She will share with us some of the basic of Islam, aspects of Afghan culture, and offer insight for how we as Christians may walk alongside our Afghan neighbors and create a more welcoming environment in our communities.
Our Presentor Janan Najeeb
Janan Najeeb is a founding member and the president of the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition. For 27 years, the Coalition has worked to inform, advocate for justice, dispel stereotypes and build community in Wisconsin. Najeeb is a highly sought after speaker and sits on numerous community boards and committees. Under her leadership the MMWC opened the Islamic Resource Center, a lending library and cultural center that hosts thousands of visitors every year. The MMWC also hosts the Milwaukee Muslim film Festival at the historic Oriental Theater, publishes the Wisconsin Muslim Journal and runs Our Peaceful Home, a culturally informed family strengthening and domestic abuse project. Ms. Najeeb is the recipient of numerous awards including the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee’s Frank Zeidler Award and the Dick Ringler Distinguished Peace Educator Award from the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. Ms Najeeb is married to Dr. Waleed Najeeb and has 5 children
